  • Background, what has happened to this character to influence their beliefs and values?
  • Core, what are their beliefs and values?
  • Externalization, how does their beliefs and values influence how they interact with their world?
• What do they want?
  • External Motivation/Want: A tangible goal they want to achieve.
  • Internal Motivation/Need: Something that will help a character overcome their.
• Why can’t they get it?
  • External Conflict: Person vs. (Person/Nature/Society/Technology/Supernatural)
  • Internal Conflict: Person vs. (Self/Destiny/Fate/Luck…)
• What do they try?
  • What action do they take to achieve what they want?
• Why doesn’t that work?
  • What was the flaw in their plan, themselves, and the circumstance that causes them to fail?
• How does their story end?
  • Do they get what they need?
  • Do they get what they want? If not, what did they get instead?
  • How does their new circumstance differ from their background?
  • How did their values and beliefs change?
  • How does the way they act differ from before based on how their values change?
